3rd Annual Alumni Game Goes to OT

12/28/08 -  The 3rd Annual Blue/Gold Alumni game needed an overtime period to determine a winner as the Gold team pulled out the 9-8 victory on a goal by 2008 Alumni Michael Stell.  The game originally was to be three 12 minute stop clock periods but the players wanted 15 minute periods so that's what we went with.   When the game ended in a tie, Freshman Head Coach Brad Blair came to the scorer's table and suggested we play overtime and then a shoot out, if necessary, since we had the ice until 6 pm.  The extra frame was enough to determine a winner.

The real winners are all the players who participated and especially the American Rescue Workers of Hollidaysburg.  Over 100 food items were collected to help stock their food bank for those in need of food over the holidays.

Here's the list of the 19 players that participated in this year's game.  Adrian Robison '03, Justin Showalter '05, Jason Meadows '04, Matt Burns '08, Bryan Koronowski '05, Kevin Koronowski '08, Jonathan Joseph '06, Nick Bryant '04, Josh Wolfe '06, Ralph Mielnik '04, Tyler Robertson '07, Cory Reed '07, Michael Larkin '07, Matt Goetz '06, Chris McCarl '05, Jimmy Donovan '07, Devin Cuzzolina '07, Tony Pacifico '07, and  Michael Stell '08.

Hopefully, these guys aren't too sore or banged up.  The game was to be non-checking but the competitive juices flowed with some occasional contact especially in such a close game.

Thank you to all the players that participated, the fans (mostly relatives of the players), Freshman Head Coach Brad Blair for filling out the Blue team roster, Varsity Goaltender Bryan Wilk for going in goal at the last minute, Junior Alex Robertson for refereeing the game, and to Tim Wilk for running the clock.

***Game Notes & Kudos***

~ The Class of 2007 had the most participants with 6 of 8 Alumni participating ~

~ Adrian Robison from the Class of 2003 was the oldest participant. ~

Varsity & Alumni Skate to 5-5 Tie in 2nd Annual Alumni Game

12/26/07 - Hollidaysburg's 2nd Annual Alumni game was held at Galactic Ice on December 26th as the teams skated to a 5-5 tie with more than 100 fans in attendance.  Admission was a food donation for the American Rescue Workers of Hollidaysburg.  23 Golden Tiger alumni players laced them up once again to have some fun with their former teammates and take on the current Varsity squad.  Both teams reported they thoroughly enjoyed the game.

***Thank You's***

~ Thank you to our Fans, all the Alumni that came back to play, the Varsity team and coaches, the Galactic Ice Staff, Tom Lantz (the Alumni Team Coach), Mike Magee (our Illustrious Referee), and Ken Koronowski (the Clock Operator) for attending and helping out with this year's game ~

Hollidaysburg Holds Inaugural Alumni Game

2006 Alumni Team Members: 1st row (l to r) Jonathan Joseph '06, Tim Crawford '06, Nate Edkins '04, Nick Bryant '04, Jason Meadows '04, Matt Goetz '06, Justin Showalter '05.  2nd row (l to r) Gifford Piper '04, Chris McCarl '05, Adrian Robison '03, Josh Wolfe '06, Bryan Koronowski '05, Ralph Mielnik '04, Coach Tom Lantz

Thirteen Alumni returned to their roots and laced them up as they took on the current Golden Tiger Varsity team in the 1st Annual Alumni Game at Galactic Ice on Wednesday, December 27th.  The Alumni gave the varsity a run for their money before bowing by a 12-9 score.  The Alumni took the Varsity team by surprise when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first couple minutes of the 1st period.  The Varsity got on track and the 1st period was tied 4-4.  The 2nd period would see the Varsity score 4 unanswered goals that gave them a lead that they would not relinquish.  The 3rd period had some excitement when the Alumni team was awarded a penalty shot.  2005 Alum and Hollidaysburg's All-Time Leading Scorer, Bryan Koronowski, made good on the penalty shot as he waited out Goaltender Brandon Marasco.  Alumni Team Coach, Tom Lantz, in an effort to make up a 3 goal deficit in a hurry, then called time out, pulled Goaltender Jonathan Joseph and called for the "Buzz Saw" face off strategy.  The Alumni were unable to convert the strategy into any goals setting the final score at 12-9.

Approximately 125 fans attended the game which was a great turnout and we thank you for your attendance.  Admission to the game was a canned good which will be donated to the Hollidaysburg Rescue Mission.  The Alumni players reportedly had a great time returning to the ice; however, some of them admitted they might be a little sore over the next few days.

The Hollidaysburg Hockey organization would like to thank the following people for making this event a success:
